unwritten conversation is a series of presentations documenting (intermittent moments in) an ongoing exchange between choreographers Heine Avdal, Yukiko Shinozaki and dramaturge Sara Jansen.
It explores, from different perspectives, the tensions and intersections between (the acts/practices of) choreography and writing, and experiments with different ways to revisit, re-use, and reflect on the archive and knowledge produced by/ through choreographic practice (over the course of, by now, many years). Previous iterations include a lecture by Jansen as part of a series of portraits made by Avdal and Shinozaki’s regular collaborators during a retrospective of/on their body of works at Pact Zollverein (Essen, Germany, 2018), a conference presentation by Jansen annotated live with performative interventions by Avdal and Shinozaki (PSi Daegu, South Korea, 2018), an essay published in the performing arts journal Etcetera in Belgium (2018), a booklet (containing an annotated interview) published by MDT Stockholm (2019), a location-specific conference lecture performance walk at Psi Calgary (2019) and a presentation at TPAM Yokohama (2020) that included, next to Jansen, Avdal and Shinozaki, performers Gabel Eiben and Krisjanis Sants and sound designers Johann Loiseau and Fabrice Moinet.

unwritten conversation aims to refigure the conventional format of the conference lecture by setting the text in motion, by presenting it in a dis/embodied way, and by inviting the listeners/ attendees to move along (with the text/performers).

A GAP CAN BE A MOVEMENT.
A GAP CAN BE A THOUGHT.
A GESTURE CAN MEAN MANY THINGS.
THIS POINT AND THAT POINT.
FROM THIS POINT TO THAT POINT.
A DOT. AN ARROW. AN ARGUMENT. A THEORY.
